Menopause and Exercise

We have all heard of the expression 'middle aged spread', and it would be no coincidence to tie this occurrence in with the menopause.  This is sadly one of the side effects for menopausal women.
The simple solution to this is to exercise with weights to keep your muscle tone. Now some people may find the idea of exercise just too much to bear, I originally found it impossible to get myself in the mood.  What I discovered though, was by simply taking the first steps and starting off really slow, I managed to build myself up gradually.  I am now at the stage where I feel so much better about myself, and I actually find myself looking forward to my little work outs.
So, my best advise then will be to start gradually and really enjoy yourself, only work at a pace you are comfortable with, you really do feel the benefit and as a bonus exercise really makes you feel good mentally. Take a look at this book for excellent tips - 101 Ways to Work Out with Weights: Effective Exercises to Sculpt Your Body and Burn Fat!
